Capri, a far from the crowd place for the perfect Mediterranean holiday

Capri, a far from the crowd place to live the relaxing experience of a Mediterranean holiday.  Spring certainly is the best season of the year to enjoy such an experience.

This is true for a number of reasons. Let us assume that you would love to stroll down one of the island’s many fancy, typical streets, or sit at the table in famous ‘Piazzetta’. AprilMay and early June, when the island’s nature gives its best, are the best time for that.

The scent of blossoming flowers and blooming Mediterranean Scrubland, also know as ‘Macchia Mediterranea‘, is, in fact, something quite unique.

Let us also say that you like hiking. Though it is a small island, Capri offers dozens of hidden pathways and trails leading to the most stunning views. A pleasant experience thanks to Spring’s mild temperatures.

Colours. Capri in Summer, with its bright, vibrant and joyful colours is quite something. But, if you’re looking for nuances, infinite shades and gradients of warm colours, sunset in May is what you most surely want.

A step closer to Spring. Why choose Capri island

January is over and we are a step closer to Spring. Capri certainly is the ideal destination for your well deserved Spring break. For a number of reasons.

  • Capri island is located right in the centre of the gulf of Naples. In a bunch of minutes you can easily access some of the most stunning wonders in the world: Positano, Amalfi, Sorrento, Pompeii and Herculaneum, the ancient city of Naples, the islands of Procida and Ischia.
  • The weather is warm, but not hot and you can enjoy the spectacle of the blossoming nature while walking around. Capri is a terrific place for hiking lovers.
  • A lively, but not crowded place. Strolling around beautiful Anacapri town, shopping in the small streets and alleys dotted with artisanal workshops and dining at open air restaurants really is an amazing experience.

These are just three of the many reasons why Capri island is the place-to-go for a Spring break. The rest you can find out coming here.

Spring, the perfect time for a relaxing Mediterranean break

Warm pleasant weather, nature blossoming, the sun shining bright. That’s Spring, one of the most beautiful seasons of the year for those who want to enjoy a perfect Mediterranean break.

This is the season when Capri and its wonderful surroundings give their best. Mild temperatures allow visitors to pleasantly tour the island and all the beautiful places dotting the gulf of Naples (the islands of Ischia and Procida, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Sorrento) and the Amalfi coast.

The island’s little streets and alleys slowly come to life after the Winter, never to become overcrowded, though. A nice and easy atmosphere to do some shopping, trekking, sunbathing and enjoy the delicacies of local gastronomy.

This is just a small, tiny picture of the many beautiful things Capri island offers for those who want to take a break in Spring time and live a relaxing Mediterranean experience.

Passetiello trail. A walk into the wild.

As we said in a previous post, Capri island is the ideal place for hiking lovers. Dozens of hidden paths to the most spectacular views over the Mediterranean Sea.

One of the most adventurous one certainly is ‘Passetiello’ trail, leading to the island’s highest peak, Mount Solaro. Words cannot properly describe the astonishing view to be enjoyed once at the top.

Passetiello was for a long long time the only existing way, along with Scala Fenicia, to reach Anacapri (the upper part of the island) from Capri town. The first road connecting the two towns was built at beginning of the XX century.

Starting at the junction between the roads to the port, Marina Piccola and Anacapri, Passetiello really is a trip into the wild. As you will find yourself hiking for up to 3 hours, this walk requires some skills. Endurance, first and above all.

You can barely see the sky along most of the climb, as the sight is blocked by trees. Still, as passing through a narrow passage, the most stunning view opens up in front of your eyes. Looking North, the whole Gulf Of Naples. Looking South, the blue waters stretching out to Sicily. Looking at your feet, the whole island.

Climb for half an hour at least on a slope so steep you need to proceed zig-zagging, and the magnificent Cetrella gets disclosed. Now, sit down and relax, and let your eyes feast on such a spectacle.

From here, a nice and easy flat walk will lead you to Mount Solaro, from where you will enjoy the spectacle of the sun setting down right behind the beautiful Ischia island.

Food | Gastronomy | Capri | Italy

Capri island and the Gulf of Naples. A paradise for gastronomy lovers.

Italy. According to some estimates the country is home to half the world’s greatest art treasures. Italy is considered the birthplace of Western civilisation, a sort of cultural superpower. The most renowned elements of its culture are music, art, architecture, fashion and food.

There is probably no other element that is capable to express the country’s cultural diversity such as food. As everyone knows, Italy is not just the place of great cities such as Florence, Milan, Naples and Rome. Italy is, in fact, the place of hundreds small towns and villages, each and everyone of them being characterised by its own cultural heritage. – including architecture, dialect, art, music and, of course, food.

Thus, just like architecture, art, music and dialect, every city, every town, even within the same region, has its own way to prepare the same dish.

That’s true for Capri and the surroundings as well. ‘Spaghetti alla Nerano’, to give one example. The way you have them in wonderful Nerano, on the other side of the small canal dividing Capri from Sorrento Peninsula, you cannot have on the island – or anywhere else throughout the Gulf of Naples. No one ever got to know which ingredient or combination of ingredients make them so special and unique as in Nerano.

Pasta | Food | Gastronomy | Italy | Capri

‘Coniglio all’Ischitana’, just another example. A very specific way of cooking rabbit, with or without pasta. You cannot have it the same way you have in Ischia island, no matter how much hard you try, no matter how much care and attention you put in balancing ingredients, no matter how much renowned the restaurant you step in is.

Sausage. There are so many different kinds of sausages in Italy, so many different ways of preparing and cooking it that we might firmly declare there is no such a thing as ‘sausage’. The way to prepare it is the subject of a never-ending dispute between Neapolitans and Capresi. Unlike the former, the latter have it with fennel seams and fat – so that is tastes in a completely different way. Of course sausage by Capresi cooks is an abomination for Neapolitans and vice versa.

How not to mention Ravioli Capresi? Something you can eat only in Capri, as it is made with a particular kind of cheese (Caciotta cheese) that is produced specifically for Ravioli Capresi – and nothing else.

So, if you love good food and gastronomy, Capri island and such a land of wonders as the Gulf of Naples, with its gorgeous towns and island, is the the right place for you to spend your holidays.

Capri | Fall

Fall. Capri’s blue waters and rocky shores are just yours to enjoy.

See the picture above? It seems it was taken on a Summer sunny day, but it was taken, instead, exactly three days ago on Monday, October 16th.

As we have said many times throughout this blog, Capri has so many wonderful things to do and see that one week alone would not be enough to do and see them altogether.

Whatever you love you can find it here: culture, nature, history, fashion, food, luxury shopping, craftsmanship, and so forth and so on.

Still, for those who love lying in the sun and enjoy the island’s crystal clear waters, there is no better time of the year than Fall. Whether it’s September or December, it still feels like Summer.

Difference is, while in Summer the island’s waters swarm with boat and temperatures can be unbearably hot, in October Capri’s rocky shores are just yours. Few, small boats humming around and none of the madding, yet colourful crowd filling the island’s streets and alleys in, say, July and August.

The ideal atmosphere to indulge in a couple of days break from frenzy of everyday life.
